Wow, 2009 is flying by! Can you believe it's already the middle of January?! Next week, our country will celebrate two historic figures. On Monday, a lot of people will be rejoicing a day to sleep in others will celebrate the birth of Martin Luther King, Jr. Many cities will be doing a day of service in honor of his memory. Others may attend a unity breakfast and I'm sure many schools will do plays.
Tuesday, is Inauguration Day and Barack Obama will be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. Many televisions will be tuned to this this momentous event. Others will travel in person to witness this changing of the guard.
The works of Martin Luther King and countless others involved in the Civil Rights Movement helped bring Tuesday into fruition. A day many people thought they would never see intheir lifetime. While many know Martin Luther King's name, there were countless men and women of all sizes, shapes and colors that worked tirelessly in the fight. Many even lost their lives.
If you want to learn more about the Civil Rights Movemnet, Martin Luther King, Jr. or Barack Obama please stop by the SSCC libraries.
